Eilenburg's Ski Jump

A ski jump on the plains and lowlands - a combination that can only make sense in Eilenburg.  The ski jumper enthusiasts of the region celebrated the dedication of their giant 'Lowlandsjump' in 1958.  Athletes were capable of reaching heights of up to 30 metres with this manmade ski jump.  However, in 1994 the jump had to be closed down for safety reasons and for several years only the two smaller ski jumps could be put to use.  After a long-lived struggle the SV Lok Eilenburg ski jumpers were finally able to inaugurate their newly constructed ski jump on November 6th, 1999 with a very important guest in attendance, world champion jumper, Jens Weißflog. Alongside federal, rural district, and city funds and grants, as well as other sponsors and donors, the citizens of Eilenburg were fundamental in raising 40 000 of the 250 000 Marks needed for the costly reconstruction.

Eilenburg has already been able to send over 50 ski jumping athletes to the training centre in Oberhof.
